Inpatient Rehabilitation Services

Inpatient rehabilitation is part of the care plan for patients admitted to the hospital. Inpatient Rehabilitation Services at Mercy offers a comprehensive rehabilitation program that includes:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Lymphedema Therapy
  • Certified Wound Care
  • Neurodevelopmental Training
  • Early Mobility Program

NICU Program

Inpatient rehabilitation is provided to patients following many types of surgery for various medical conditions including hip and knee replacements, lymphedema, breast cancer, gynecologic cancer and vascular disease. Patients who have suffered strokes or other neurological conditions as well as babies in the NICU also receive rehabilitative therapy.

Patients admitted to Mercy receive their therapy in one of the two rehabilitation gyms located in The Bunting Center. Patients in contact isolation, on a ventilator, or in the NICU are seen in their individual, private rooms.

Coordinated Rehabilitation Program

Our licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists work in conjunction with the physicians from Mercy’s renowned Centers of Excellence, including The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital at Mercy, The Institute for Gynecologic Care at Mercy, The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mercy, The Institute for Cancer Care at Mercy and The Melissa L. Posner Institute for Digestive Health and Liver Disease at Mercy, to coordinate rehabilitation services that will best help our patients recover from their surgeries.

Wound Care

Inpatient Rehabilitation Services at Mercy provides wound care to our patients. Our certified wound care specialist guides patients in caring for their wounds. Whirlpool therapy, most often used for patients with vascular conditions, is directed by our wound care specialist if recommended by the patient’s surgeon.

Rehabilitation after Hospital Discharge

Patients may be in need of additional rehabilitation following their discharge from The Bunting Center at Mercy. The Center for Restorative Therapies at Mercy provides comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation serves. Often, patients already have been to the Center for their pre-operative therapy and choose to continue with the Center’s licensed therapists for their post-operative rehabilitation following their hospital discharge.
