Spacious Private Rooms to Accommodate New Mothers, Fathers, Families and Friends
Mindful of the importance of support from family and friends, Mercy’s team thoughtfully designed each room to be large, open and equipped with couches and chairs for the family to relax comfortably. Five visitors may accompany the mother-to-be in the room.
Your First Moments with Your New Baby
We know the importance of a mother’s touch and have created our facilities to support the bonding of mothers and babies. Our goal is to keep babies with their mothers through the entire birthing process whenever possible so bonding can take place immediately, even within in the case of C-section deliveries. When transferred to our Mother-Baby Unit, you will find a spacious suite with plenty of room for your baby to stay and greet family members and friends.
If your baby needs to be admitted to the NICU, the Mother-Baby Unit and NICU are on the same floor with private rooms for both mom and baby so moms have easy access to their new babies along with the privacy needed to bond.
A Leader in Childbirth Care in the Baltimore Area
The Family Childbirth & Children’s Center at Mercy is dedicated to offering new mothers leading edge care. Mercy was the first hospital in Maryland to offer women the opportunity to donate their baby’s umbilical cord for free in Maryland’s first public cord blood program. Mercy was one of the first hospitals in the area to offer private NICU rooms and also is a local leader in its appreciation of patients’ growing interest in alternative laboring methods, such as soaking tubs, birthing balls and chairs, and other equipment designed to facilitate birth.
